Last week my two sons and I shot episode one of a series of movies that we plan to upload to YouTube. Here’s the video and below that are the details for the contest.

The weather was beautiful for shooting at least part of a movie. The story wasn’t what I planned to shoot at first but the boys really liked telling this story. We all had a great time and look forward to shooting the next episode. Everyone who reads this in the next few days should go to our facebook page and give recommendations for what is in the box.

I’ll be shooting a short film tomorrow

On Labor Day this year my children and I will be shooting a short film. The anticipation has been building for a few weeks and the boys are very excited. It’s a silent film about something the boys find in a box. That’s all I’m going to say. You’ll have to watch the movie to find out more. I had planned on shooting a movie sometime this summer but every day was a bit too HOT. Thankfully tomorrow the weather is supposed to be in the mid 80s…

Slow Motion tests with the Canon 60D and Motion

After I got my DSLR a friend of mine asked me if I’ve used the twixtor plugin. I had not heard of twixtor so I did some quick research… I read that I can use Apple Motion and create a slow motion look like that of twixtor. Saving money is always a good thing. I grabbed my camera (and sons) and did some quick 60p video tests. Then started editing. It was a fun slow-mo test.

Welcome to DSLR

Well ladies and gentlemen, I’ve now have the option of shooting videos with a DSLR camera that I own. No, it’s not the Canon 5d Mark 2 and not the 7D either. I have been holding out on purchasing the 5D until the next version is released. The 5D mark 3? Up until now I have been renting cameras like the Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras – I also rented on several occasions the Panasonic AF 100 – the Af100 was a nice video camera that does some things the DSLR cameras don’t. I’ve been doing a good deal of research into the best camera (for the price) and read a post by philipbloom.net where he mentioned that his second favorite camera next to the 5d was the Canon 60D. 60D? I had to read that a few times too. He listed various reasons – one of which was the great flip out LCD monitor. So, I decided to get one so I could use it on the next few projects I have coming up. After church today I got one one the way home. One of the reasons I decided to get one today instead of waiting a few more days or weeks is because our little daughter is six months old today and I wanted to shoot some good looking pics and video! I charged up the battery and shot around some. So far I like it. Thought the 60D is not a full frame camera – and the depth of field doesn’t look as nice at the 5D nor does it handle the low light as well the 5D – it does a darn good job overall. And my little girl looks great! I’m looking forward to shooting with it over the days ahead. I’m sure I’ll be posting some videos shot with it soon.

A client recently contacted me and asked me to check out http://freethemarkets.com and come up with a video to hopefully go viral. I did some research into how to best attack the project… Writing and editing projects like this are a fun challenge.
